I’ve been sent news of the undead rising within the City Centre on the Saturday 20th October… Be ready to see a horde of zombies stagger across Plymouth and spill onto the Barbican
…
A Zombie outbreak is set to infest Plymouth and the apocalypse will fall on Saturday 20th October – The walk of the undead will creep up on Plymouth like nothing seen in the South West before.
We have news that Zombies will be dragging their rotting corpses around the centre of the city creating a horrifying spectacle, just a week and a half before Halloween; in the name of charity, raising money for St Luke’s Hospice – A charity that helps those who are faced with the reality of having a terminal or life-limiting illness, giving these people the best possible care.
The Zombie walk has been organised by a group of businesses in Plymouth that have come together to create an event that will not only raise a good deal of money for charity, but put much needed footfall back onto the retail streets of Plymouth.
With many local businesses in Plymouth now piling on board this distinctive promotion, this Zombie walk should hopefully raise a lot of money for a good cause, and also help to show Plymouth as a city within the UK that has businesses coming together to help themselves and local charities with a great engaging event that all can join in with..
The idea was originally suggested by Neil Trigger, owner of Ghostly Publishing. Their new book, Jimmy Threepwood and the Veil of Darkness was to be launched at Waterstones in the mall, but as he planned his guerrilla marketing tactic, the idea of the dead took on a new life.
Add in a Hollywood-style make up and art studio Smart FX (based in The Gaint’s Lair) and the Zombie walk began to grow and gain footing as the possibility of ultra-realistic zombies became a possibility, with massive alternative fashion chain Blue Banana helping stage a ‘flashmob of zombies’ outside their store, this small idea has begun to go viral with all would-be zombies and zombie hunters getting excited about the possibility of being professionally filmed and photographed with authentic zombie make up and accessories from these two providers.
The small business alliance is expecting many hundreds of participants from all ages and walks of life to join in with the walk and treasure hunt through town on Saturday 20th October. It’s designed to make a scary impact, and in the most positive way possible. Bringing people together for a shared event that everyone can help organise, bringing friends along with them.
The Plymouth Zombie walk follows on from the successes of many similar events being held around the world right now. The most important thing with all of these walks is gathering public interest and engagement. It’s a fun event for everyone.
“With the support we’ve had for the zombie walk, we thought we could make something really special” said Tony Gatland of Smart FX. “The treasure hunt will start from sundial square and take in much of the city, stopping past Blue Banana for a ‘flashmob’ gathering, ending at the giants lair for a
bit of a party celebration and the prize giving of a custom-built trophy from Smart FX, a signed copy of Ghostly Publishing’s book, and a VIP shopping experience at Blue Banana with £50 to spend in the store going to the ‘best-dressed zombie’.
Watch this space for some fantastic photos of the event. A video will also be posted online.
If you want to find out more and register your interest for the event – please head to the Blue Banana store based in Cornwall Street in the center of town – or search for the page on Facebook called: Plymouth Zombie Walk.
