With reports of a large tidal surge set to reach the Plymouth Barbican Harbour around 6.45am on 3rd January 2014 the Barbican was placed on flood alert.

Sandbags were placed and personnel from Amey positioned themselves near the Mayflower Steps. The water trickled over the Steps, but thanks to the Barbican lock gates (designed to stop flooding) and Amey pumping the puddles of water the tidal surge caused no problems and it is business as usual on the Barbican :).
