As part of a team of four, Aimee Dewar took a look around the Barbican to see what was on offer this Christmas…
Aimee Dewar Writes: To mark the start of Christmas, the Barbican Waterfront Volunteer team took to the cobbles to discover what offers, gifts and events our local businesses and restaurants had on offer this festive season. We spilt into two teams, girls versus boys, and visited all kinds of premises on one half of the Barbican each. We were kindly allowed to take photographs showcasing present ideas and Christmas party venues, and Tweet them as we went.
Our first stop was alternative bicycle shop and café Rockets & Rascals where we fell in love with their huge range of Christmas socks. They are also hosting Christmas parties later in the month. Next, we visited The House That Jack Built where we visited The Vintage Skateboarding Company, WhatNot personalised wood and slate gifts, Funky Poppy, the Leap of Faith tarot reader, Godfrey Gifts and Peardrop jewelers. There were some brilliant and unique gifts to be had here, including a lot of Christmas-themed and handmade ideas.
We then visited our side of the Southside Street galleries, including Glass! Blue Peace and Armada. They were more than happy for us to capture some images of artwork and our favourite gift ideas, including tree decorations and keepsakes. On our travels we also found out what other Christmas offers are taking place up and down the Barbican, Annabell’s Cabaret, The Glassblowing House, National Marine Aquarium and Cap’n Jaspers.
On the 4th of December, some shops will be staying open until 8pm, ensuring we can all get to the Barbican and shop local this Christmas.
