ABB Love The Barbican Poster PlymouthThis summer, The Association of Barbican Businesses (ABB) launched a campaign to highlight the affection residents and visitors have towards the Barbican, Plymouth. A postcard caption competition to encourage visitors and Plymouth residents to state why they love the Barbican. Hundreds of entries were received from all over the UK including some famous faces; including Olympic swimmer Sharon Davies who said “I love the Barbican because for me it smells of home; the sea, ice cream and fish and chips, and it’s always busy and alive with people”

The caption competition even had to extend the deadline as entries kept on coming every day! Entries were then judged by a panel of ABB members who chose after much deliberation Mr Ian Morgan as their favourite with his entry:

“I love the Barbican because… it is the historic heartbeat of Plymouth’’ – Ian Morgan

The judges felt he had captured the feeling expressed by many entrants that the Barbican is the heart of the city where Plymouth residents and visitors have been drawn for centuries.

Mr Morgan won a hamper of gifts and vouchers donated by Barbican businesses with a value of over £200

Judges also loved the entry of 3 year old Lucie, who was given a special runners up prize, Lucie loves the barbican

She was delighted to be presented with her very own Barbican mermaid.
