Marine City Festival 8th – 16th September 2012

Headlining the 2012 programme will be a brand new Marine City Festival, which organisers hope will further position Plymouth as the UK’s leading marine city for science, education, engineering and technology. The event will focus on sustainability with community and visitor events such as a sustainable food festival meeting academic conferences.

The event, led by Destination Plymouth, is being delivered through multiple partners in the city. The Plymouth Marine Science Partnership and newly announced Queen’s Anniversary Prize recipients, Plymouth University are leading a well advanced marine science series of events including the internationally significant ‘Oceans of Potential’ conference. Destination Plymouth, with Plymouth Waterfront Partnership is developing a sustainable seafood festival, the National Marine Aquarium is leading an education strand and Plymouth Chamber of Commerce with the support of Plymouth City Council is developing plans around opportunities for businesses and inward investment.

The date for the inaugural Marine City Festival has been set for the 8th-16th September 2012 and whilst plans are still being made there are aspirations for it to include music, food, education, business opportunities and debate.

The BLUE Mile
Plymouth Barbican and Waterfront will welcome the Ecover Blue Mile over the opening weekend of the Marine City Festival 8-9th September. Register at www.thebluemile.org to swim, stand up paddle or kayak the mile and raise funds to help protect our rivers and seas
