Yesterday I took the dogs for a walk on the Hoe, it was a lovely sunny day. I continued on to the barbican fancying a spot of lunch and a pint. This proved to be almost imposible, nowhere would allow dogs in ! Dogs are not even allowed in outside area’s ie Gog & Magog and all the bars on the strand.
I travel everywhere with my two small dogs and I can’t remember anywhere that is so un dog friendly. Every other tourist town or city have signs welcoming dogs. Why is it that Plymouth does not allow me to have a pint and a bar meal with my dogs. No wonder pubs are closing at an alarming rate and our heritage lost.
Can you please add to your list of Barbican Pubs whether they allow dogs in so people like me don’t have to go through the embarrasment of going in and out of pubs seeking permission to buy my lunch?
Hi Clive,
Thanks for the comment, this is a good idea and I am compiling a list of dog friendly pubs as a result. Expect to see them highlighted within a few weeks as I’ll pop into each pub and check their policy on this.
At the moment I know the Admiral MacBride is a dog friendly policy, the pub is located near the mayflower steps. I’m sure there are lots of pubs who welcome dogs, but I’m interested to see how many. Watch this space!
I wonder if anyone can help me. I’m having my 40th birthday celebrations on the 3rd of September and am planning on going to the Barbican with about 30 of my friends male and female. We intend to eat, drink and maybe see some music. It would be nice if this was all under one roof but it’s not essential. I would love hear some suggestions, something with a bit of life please.
Hi Darren,
A number of venues offer areas for hire. Lavish (free hire upstairs), View 2 and the Three Crowns springs to mind. I’d book somewhere soon though for September is going to be busy with the America’s Cup event and places are being prebooked for parties e.t.c.
FYI…View 2 is a dog friendly venue with an outside area suitable for (behaved)dogs and diners…
Thankyou for the tip Andy
Hi Just wondering if anywhere is hiring bar staff at the moment?
Hi Sarah,
I’m not aware of any at the moment, but I’d recommend calling around, there is usually a need for bar staff. Quite a few bars and clubs on the Barbican
Could anyone recommend any where near waterfront that would cater for a wedding reception that isn’t priced out of this world!
