A true gem in Plymouth’s crown, the Barbican sparkles even more during the festive season. The Barbican offers a unique shopping experience to all visitors and is also packed with excellent eateries, perfect for all sorts of ‘get togethers’.

In this feature, we want to celebrate what’s best about the Barbican, give you an insight into what’s on offer and introduce some of the local traders who make this place unique and enticing, and of course we’d like to encourage you to venture out and explore what’s on offer his Christmas.

A warm welcome awaits you on a visit to one of the Barbican’s favourite art galleries, Kaya Gallery, run by the friendly owner –Chris Warne and his family, housed within a charming Tudor property and located right on the main road, Southside Street.

It’s easy to find and hard to resist a visit once you spot the diverse range of artwork on show in the gallery’s windows. Families will be in for a treat as Kaya Gallery is taking part again in this winter’s Polar Bear Explorer Trail! The gallery is also home to the golden bear named ‘George’ – so do make sure you pop in, grab a selfie with their friendly polar bear and have a browse for some unique Christmas gifts.

From famous local artists like Lenkiewicz and Brain Pollard to beautiful glasswork from M & D Glass, quirky badge pictures, framed stamp maps and gorgeous porcelain foliage pieces – there’s something here for everyone.

The colourful badge artwork has been a very popular choice with shoppers. The selection of ready-made pieces are fantastic, but if you can’t find what you like, you can request a commission to be made of any film, celebrity, comic book, football team, musician/genre or favourite theatre production – the choice is endless. Unframed badges are just £15 and box framed one’s only £25 with bespoke pieces available at extra charge.

Kaya Gallery is filled with contemporary and classic artwork at very reasonable prices, so do pop in for a browse this Festive season, you will not leave disappointed.

Harbourside Fish and Chips

Harbourside Gluten Free – Harbourside have a dedicated Gluten Free premises on the Barbican, just around the corner, offering all the traditional favourites without a trace of gluten in sight! As part of their plan to support healthy eating, the restaurant has switched to using groundnut oil, a thinner oil that drains from the fish easier. Harbourside also offers a good choice of healthier options by introducing jacket potatoes, side salad and chargrilled fish or chicken as opposed to fried.

Blues Bar

Enjoy mouth-watering lunchtime meals, a wide drink choice and live music!

Situated in the Heart of The Barbican Plymouth, the Blues Bar is a popular family run bar, cafe, restaurant & live music venue with friendly staff serving pints and declious food for over 13 years.
